Located just outside of the vibrant University City of Cambridge are The Mulberry Wards, situated within the extensive and picturesque grounds of Fulbourn Hospital.

Our Inpatient pathway consists of three areas, collectively referred to as the 3-3-3 system.

  • 3-day Acute Assessment Unit (Mulberry 1)
  • 3-week Acute Treatment Unit (Mulberry 3)
  • 3-month Recovery Unit (Mulberry 3)

The multidisciplinary teams are made up of Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, Occupational Therapists, Activities Coordinators, Clinical Psychologists, Assistant Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Administrative Staff, Ward Managers, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Service Manager, and students from across the various disciplines.

Roles available

We currently have vacancies for Band 5 Staff Nurses across our inpatient pathway, you will already have or be working towards a Registered Mental Health Nurse qualification.

For those nearing qualification or recently qualified CPFT has a 12 month Preceptorship pathway to ensure that you are fully supported upon entering the profession, do not hesitate us to contact this further if you are considering this role.

What do we do?

We support working age adults who require specialist inpatient support, we work across the range of mental health conditions holding a strong recovery focus and a motivation to support individuals with returning to the community.

In order to achieve this the teams work collaboratively with Service Users from the get go, over the years we have formed and established strong links with community teams both NHS and Third Sector to ensure that consistently high levels of care are provided to enable maximum benefit to the Service Users recovery journey.

Working as a Multidisciplinary Team is core to our practice, you would be a central figure within this having the opportunity to bring your experience to the service ensuring that the care delivered is evidence based and best practice.

We focus on proactive, targeted interventions to help people through the acute phase of their illness. We provide a safe, supportive environment to enable them to recover sufficiently to be able to function to their optimum level and face challenges back in the community

Mulberry 1 - 11 bed assessment and treatment focused ward within the Fulbourn Adult Acute 333 In-patient pathway. With an average admission of 3 days, we aim to provide a therapeutic environment offering short care and treatment interventions focused on pulling together community resource & support for individuals experience crisis, the ward has strong working relationships with the Crisis Resolution & Home Treatment Team who are co-located with the ward.

Mulberry 2 - 16 bed treatment focused ward within the Fulbourn Adult Acute 333 In-patient pathway. With an average admission of 3 weeks. we aim to provide a therapeutic environment offering planned care and treatment focusing on Psychosocial Interventions, group & personal work skills, pharmacological interventions, and individual Recovery Plans.

Mulberry 3 - 16 bedded unit who welcome patients from the acute and forensic pathway for a period of treatment and recovery. Working as part of a 3-3-3 system patients can expect to be on Mulberry 3 for a period of 3 months.

Staff Accommodation

We are pleased to inform candidates that there is the potential for new staff to access affordable accommodation as detailed below, which can be very helpful where re-location is considered.

For those applicants who are out of area, relocation costs are available as per Trust policy.

We have 24 rooms of staff accommodation which is situated in Waterbeach Barracks, 11 miles from Fulbourn/Cambridge. The accommodation was refurbished in July 2018 and is available immediately.

Each room is in a group of four rooms and has a small shared living area and a shared bathroom. Each room has a bed, wardrobe, bedside table, desk and chair. Each group of four rooms will share a large kitchen, large living room and dining area with another group of four rooms.

Free residents' parking

The accommodation is managed by the Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

One month's rent is required as a deposit and this is held by TDS (Tenancy Deposit Scheme) which is a Government backed scheme to secure tenancy deposits. The tenancy will normally be for a minimum of 6 months. The rent is £450 per calendar month.
