Located in the vibrant University City of Cambridge, George Mackenzie House at Fulbourn Hospital provides exceptional career development opportunity in the Recovery focused care of male and female adults experiencing difficulties associated with a range of acute often long standing mental health illness's.
George Mackenzie House is a low-secure unit with facilities to care for up to 20 patients, both men and women, under the care of either the general consultant psychiatrist or the forensic consultant psychiatrist.
The multi-disciplinary team assess and review all aspects of patient care. Members of the team include consultant psychiatrists, psychologists, occupational therapists, ward doctor, psychiatric nurses and therapists from the therapies department, social workers, chaplaincy and community psychiatric nurses.
The purpose of George Mackenzie House is to provide assessment and therapeutic treatment for adults with mental health issues who require interventions within a safe and secure environment.
We aim to use a holistic and collaborative approach in the preparation of individual care-plans where each patient is central to this process. We believe in truly collaborative care, support and positive risk taking.
There is a structured programme of therapy and recreational activities which aids in the assessment and treatment of each patient.
Working on George Mackenzie House will give the post holder the opportunity to practice a full range of core mental health nursing skills, physical nursing skills and also to gain experience in risk assessment, management and recovery focused interventions.
We are keen to support and develop our staff with CPD options and encourage promotional opportunities with the Trust. The service provides an in house education programme and we have close links with Anglia Ruskin University. The ward embraces ongoing training as part of daily work. This includes both peer group training and profession specific cascade learning.
We also offer regular individual and group reflective supervision.
There will be a 5 day induction programme for all new candidates.
